Before painting mural

  • Before painting, use drop cloths to protect floor.

  • Before painting, remove all switch covers and electrical covers.

  • The ideal surface for hanging mural is inexpensive flat latex paint. If the paint on your wall is gloss or semi-gloss, roughen it using sandpaper.


 
  • If you want to install wall mural in a high moisture area like bathroom, use several light coats of water based polyurethane on mural. If you think there is moisture behind the wall, use adhesive which contain mildew preventive.

  • Primer-sealer are best avoided with certain brands of murals.

  • Do not soak the mural with adhesive. The mural will break if it becomes too wet.
   

  • While installing murals, it's important to plan everything beforehand. Draw a plan on your wall. This plan should show the location of each panel.

  • Rinse paint brushes with water till the water runs clear.

  • Don't select rough or textured wall for hanging murals. It will either tear the mural or proper adhesion won't take place. The wall should be smooth and free of irregularities.

  • If the wall is small for the mural, select which part of the mural you want to show. Then trim to size.

  • If the wall is too large for the mural, center it on the wall.

  • Never book your mural. Booking means folding and letting the glue absorb into wallpaper. This will cause the mural panel to fall apart.

  • Use satin, semi-gloss or eggshell indoor latex paint for finishes of your children's room walls. You can wipe off dirt easily using damp cloth and mild soap.

  • After painting, if you see there are some drips on hardwood floor or trim, gently scrap it or wash it while the paint is still soft.
